Ken Dua showed an interest in electricity at a young age, often tinkering with basic electronics and circuitry. His hobby sometimes caused headaches for his parents, who had to apologize to the neighbors for his occasional shenanigans, including starting a fire in an attempt to hot-wire a tractor at the age of eight. Little Ken’s apparent skills proved useful, however, as he was able to repair various household items with electrical issues.
Shortly after graduating high school, Ken began working for a small electrical contractor. As an apprentice, he learned about circuitry and lighting in a mostly residential environment. He absorbed a great deal of knowledge and soon became one of his employer’s most valuable electricians. After several years, Ken moved to a larger contractor with a greater focus on commercial and institutional projects. This transition allowed him to enhance his skill-set, as he became familiar with power distribution and machine controls. As Ken became more seasoned, his expert abilities and strong work ethic were recognized, and he was eventually rewarded with a promotion to vice president.
With a young family at home and a few years of leadership experience, Ken considered starting his own business and decided to pursue an electrical license. He quickly acquired his license, and in 1992, Dua Electrical Contracting was founded. Ken inherited several large customers who had grown loyal to him over the years prior. These customers valued his work, and thanks to them, he was able to establish a solid foundation for his new company.
In 1996, Ken’s brother Tom started with Dua Electric and has been working alongside Ken ever since. Several years later, Ken decided to grow the business further by hiring and training additional crews and increasing the fleet size. A building with office and warehouse space was leased in 2005, and Ken finally moved the company out of his house. In 2012, we moved to a larger facility in the same conveniently located complex. Our fleet and number of crews have continued to increase steadily over this period.
Thanks to a loyal group of employees helping to foster Ken’s belief in delivering a superior product to the customer, we have excelled during the recent recession, which had a significant impact on the construction industry. We have succeeded with continued growth while competitors have been forced out of business. Our steady workflow during this period is a testament to the principles upon which Dua Electric was founded: quality craftsmanship, professionalism, and complete customer satisfaction. This is our guarantee.
